Winter Work

Today it was wonderfully warm in the studio despite the endless snow and ice outside. Nothing like having a kiln slowly cooling down from 1880oF to warm a space! It feels great to see my storage bins filling up with ceramic treasure and winter is the perfect time to run the kiln. So much better than trying to cool the room by opening windows when it is 105oF outside!

I spent today trimming up work from the past 2 days and getting handles on mugs. A friend of mine who has a favorite mug at home purchased years ago asked me if I could make her a few more that were a similar shape. Round bellied with a narrower neck. She also had the suggestion of only partially glazing the outside. It was fun to try out a different shape and I love how the glazing turned out. These guys may need to enter my regular rotation!
